The Amphibian Extinction Crisis: How the San Diego Zoo is Working to Save Endangered Species

This is the “Year of the Frog,” and the focus is on the global amphibian decline. Kim Lovich has worked with the Herpetology Department for nearly 10 years and will tell us about the Zoo's programs to help save these fragile species. One of the biggest challenges includes controlling and developing a cure for the chytrid fungus. This is a major cause of the amphibians' demise, and it is one of the Zoo's Top 10 conservation projects. Ms. Lovich will provide a history of our accomplishments with both local and exotic species through our head-Start, education, and Frozen Zoo programs. She will also bring a few live amphibians for a close-up view of these fascinating creatures!
